Held annually, the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit is one of the Asia-Pacific’s premier business forums, attracting significant numbers of influential CEOs from some of the largest companies in the region. For the first time ever, the APEC CEO Summit will be delivered as a hybrid event.

New Zealand-based attendees in Auckland will join virtual participants from around the world in a rolling format over several days just prior to the APEC Economy Leaders Meeting and covering a broad spectrum of time zones. The CEO Summit is an opportunity to showcase New Zealand as a place of business inclusion, digital creativity and sophistication working collaboratively to deliver value to the APEC regional community.

The APEC CEO Summit 2021 intends to:

  • address the biggest challenges and opportunities of our time, providing a forum for the creation of solutions for the region’s future..
  • demonstrate NZ’s evolving brand and creative technology capabilities (ingenuity, integrity, kaitiaki)
  • provide opportunities for leading NZ Businesses to connect with top tier businesses in the Asia Pacific
  • ensure the value of the CEOS as an important component of the APEC Host Year.

Importantly, the CEO Summit offers APEC leaders and global business leaders, entrepreneurs and thought leaders the opportunity to hear from each other and have dialogues that are interactive, stimulating and topical.

About the Chair

Barbara Chapman is Chair of Genesis Energy, Chair of media company NZME, Deputy Chair of The New Zealand Initiative and an Independent Director of Fletcher Building.  She is also a member of the independent expert advisory panel for the New Zealand Reserve Bank Act review and has served as a member of the Prime Minister’s Business Advisory Council.

Prior to retiring from her executive career Ms Chapman held the role of Chief Executive and Managing Director of ASB Bank, the New Zealand subsidiary of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.  She has held a number of senior executive roles in New Zealand and Australia responsible for marketing, communications, human resources, life insurance and banking.

Ms Chapman is a former Chair of Oxfam New Zealand and a former member of the Board of Supervisors for Oxfam International.  She was an inaugural Trustee and subsequently the Chair of the New Zealand Equal Employment Opportunities Trust. 

She is a member of Global Women New Zealand, Chief Executive Women Australia, and is an inaugural member of the diversity organisation New Zealand Champions of Change. 

In 2017, Ms Chapman was named The New Zealand Herald’s Business Leader of the Year and, in 2018, was named as the inaugural INFINZ Diversity and Inclusion Leader.  She is a chartered member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.

Ms Chapman was awarded a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM) in 2019 for services to business.
